“FIVA & the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance - Celebrating Living History in Automobiles”.
Following FIVA President Alberto Scuro’s participation as a panel member at the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum on the 13thof August in the panel “Committing to Passion: Restoration, Experience, and the Business of Collectible Cars,’ FIVA was again strongly represented in a second Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum discussion held on the 14th of August dedicated to FIVA and its presence at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, titled “FIVA & the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance - Celebrating Living History in Automobiles”.
The fact that this forum took place concomitant with the 75th gathering of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the 60th Anniversary of FIVA was truly unique as the panel explored the impact of how the alignment between FIVA and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has led to a literal sea change approach to the collection of vehicles around the world and their implications for the future of the historic vehicle world.
Moderated by Donald Osborne, FIVA Representative for North America, and attended by FIVA President Alberto Scuro, the discussion explored a broad range of issues ranging from originality and preservation to the responsibility of caring for automobiles as an important part of our cultural heritage.
The discussion was made all the more distinctive by the unique composition of the panel as highlighted by the presence of Adolfo Orsi, who has served as the Chief Judge of the FIVA Awards at the Pebble Beach Concours since their inception in 1999; Jay Leno, internationally acclaimed television host, author, philanthropist and renown collector who is also an inductee into the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame; Paul Russel, famed automotive restorer and Concours judge and rounded out by master restorer and renown television personality Wayne Carini who also frequently serves as either a judge or Grand Marshal at leading automotive events across the world. It bears mention that Carini will be shortly launching a new series about unique cars and their owners.
Each Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum is curated to inspire, inform and entertain as the panelists bring forth not only their unique and vast experience, but also their perspectives. Accordingly, the success of this forum can be best summed up referring to its very premise, namely: “The most long-established organization for the protection, preservation, and promotion of the historic vehicles, the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA), came together with the world’s pre-eminent concours event, the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance, in 1999 to celebrate originality and preservation in historic vehicles outside of museums. This partnership has served to educate collectors, restorers, enthusiasts, and the public about the importance of caring for and sharing historic vehicles as a part of cultural heritage”.
