The FIVA Utilitarian Commission
The FIVA Utilitarian Commission deals with all matters relating to utilitarian vehicles, including trucks, buses, campers, agricultural machinery and military vehicles of all kinds.
The history of utilitarian vehicles is at least as important to our automotive culture as cars and motorcycles: after all, the transport of food and goods has long been essential to society and to our survival. Take, for example, the mechanisation of agricultural equipment to increase soil yields; the emergency services, i.e. police, fire brigade and ambulances; motorised transport between farms and factories, ships and airfields; military vehicles such as tanks and automobiles to transport troops and artillery; not to mention public transport between home and work, and mobile homes and caravans for leisure pursuits
The issues facing utilitarian vehicle owners and enthusiasts are often the same as those facing the car and motorcycle sectors – but we also have our unique challenges, too. Hence the need for a commission to address these specific needs.
Aims and Objectives of the Commission
The commission regularly launches new projects to support all aspects of owning and using utilitarian vehicles and is currently working on, for example:
- Compiling a list of relevant clubs around the world, along with a list of specialists working on specific vehicle types
- Sharing information on relevant international events
- Assessing data on legislation affecting utilitarian vehicles, such as their use on the roads, and regulations regarding their roadworthiness
- Collating a list of the main museums and private collections of military vehicles, transport vehicles, agricultural vehicles, etc., to be promoted and publicised
