On the 22nd of October at the 2025 edition of the Auto Moto d’Epoca in Bologna, Italy, by way of the invitation of FIVA. a truly unique group of international experts, global partners and key figures from the historic vehicle world congregated together. The occasion was the latest edition of the FIVA Heritage Workshop. This latest gathering focused upon the analysis as to how data and innovation are leading to the transformation of the preservation of heritage.
The meeting was opened by FIVA President Tiddo Bresters followed by a roundtable introduction of the attending guests. The first keynote presentation was made by FIVA Vice President for External Relations Jos Theuns, who had also organized the work shop and whose focus was upon the impact of big data on heritage vehicles. His presentation was followed by Frank Delsen of EUCON who proceeded with an overview of the role and impact of data driven innovation. The presentation by Frank Delsen was notable in that it provided key insights into the interrelationship between data analysis and restoration, accuracy and market trends.
Following the two initial presentations, after a short lunch break, the workshop once again proceeded with the presentation of Mr. Adolfo Orsi of Historica Selecta. Mr. Orsi provided his unique analysis and insights into the current trends of the historic vehicle market and to also present an introduction to the 2025 edition of the “Classic Car Auction Yearbook”.
Mr. Orsi was followed respectively by former and current FIVA Vice President’s for Technical affairs Mark Gessler and Laurent Heriou. The focus of their presentation was the interconnection between the FIVA ID Card, big data and the preservation of heritage.
Complementing these presentations were the addresses by Emanuele Varzetti of Pirelli who, with former colleague Stephen Rowe, discussed the importance of heritage partnerships. Messrs. Varzetti and Rowe were joined by Mr. Marco Baraldi of Motul who provided his insights as to how technology can serve to preserve heritage.
Following the presentations, a question and answer session was held primarily encompassing how big data could serve to assist entities involved in the historic vehicle field. The workshop was adjourned with the holding of an open session with the automotive press.
