The last day of planned events at the FIVA booth in Rétromobile were highlighted by a number of activities, each serving to further highlight FIVA’s foundations as it celebrates its sixtieth year of activities.
FIVA’s geographic and technical breadth were exemplified by the presentation of a prestigious FIVA ID Card for the 1936 Mercedes Benz 540 K Cabriolet B on display at the FIVA booth. The presence of this vehicle, after spending most of its life in India, at the FIVA booth on the 90th anniversary of its production, is truly a microcosm of FIVA President Alberto Scuro’s statement that “historic vehicles are a part of global culture, shared across continents, generations and societies’. The presence of this vehicle at the FIVA booth served as a testament to the truly global reach of FIVA.
The issuance of the FIVA ID card for the Mercedes, after a thorough scrutineering process, is also reflective of FIVA’s global role for the documentation of historic vehicles. Following the groundbreaking cooperation with Ferrari Classiche in October 2025 whereby, with each Ferrari Classiche Certificate, a FIVA ID Card will also be issued, not only reflects a collaboration built upon the issuance of two certifications with a shared commitment to authenticity, but also a cornerstone for the continued position of the FIVA ID Card as the global reference for documentation of authenticity and history. Accordingly, the issuance of the FIVA ID Card affords global verification of authenticity and traceability, the two main factors constituting the DNA of a vehicle.
The award of the FIVA ID Card was followed by the official ‘kick-off’ of FIVA’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Attended by distinguished guests, ANF members from around the world and FIVA partners, the event served to highlight a number of key factors, namely the fact that FIVA continues to champion the rights of historic vehicle users worldwide. The work of FIVA and its Commissions serves as a model of what meaningful heritage engagement looks like: authentic, participatory, and forward-looking. This fact was echoed in the congratulatory speeches made by the representatives of FIVA partners, including Global Partners Pirelli and Motul, who joined FIVA in celebrating the collective journey of working alongside clubs, national federations and enthusiasts to advocate the right to maintain “Yesterday’s Vehicles on Today’s Roads” and to ensure the “Protection, Preservation and Promotion of World Motoring Heritage”.
With so many new challenges nowadays in the world of sustainability and mobility, FIVA will continue to work and set the stage for continuing to achieve and maintain the balance between the enjoyment and responsibility of historic vehicles for the next sixty years.
FIVA would like to take this opportunity to thank the team who, together, made FIVA’s presence at Rétromobile a resounding success, in particular, Jean Francois Ruchaud, Laurent Heriou, Gian Mario Mollar, Alizée Glavieux, Jos Theuns, Gautam Sen, Karlheinz Jungbeck, Francesca Russo, Bartolomeo Pavone, Carlo Eletto, Mariami Khubulava and Ramin Salehkhou with a special thanks to FIVA President Alberto Scuro whose backing and support made it all possible.
