Motorcycle Commission News

The FIVA Motorcycle Commission

The Motorcycle Commission is passionate about two- and three-wheeled vehicles, from mopeds to superbikes. We believe they have a great history, from the early, steam-driven examples to the innovative machines developed during the 20th Century. Remember, we have a rolling 30-year-or-older rule.

Not only was motorcycle technology fascinating but the freedom to ride almost anywhere, particularly for the young and adventurous, led to cultural changes in society. From commuting to touring and racing, riders often joined together to form clubs and groups to share their enjoyment. Our enthusiastic members around the world love to ride, maintain, talk about and show historic motorcycles. In doing so, they keep alive a special form of mobile heritage for the benefit of the whole of society.

Aims and Objectives of the Commission

1.0   Promote a global “Classic Bikes - Ride Don’t Hide” programme to encourage use of historic motorcycles

2.0   Promote the concept of a series of ‘World Events’ for historic motorcycles

3.0    Cooperate with the other FIVA commissions to safeguard the freedoms we enjoy in using our machines without restriction

4.0   Encourage the use of FIVA ID Cards for motorcycles

5.0   Develop communications and areas of joint interest between the motorcycle groups in FIVA member countries, including the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and its Touring Commission (CTL).

Classic Bikes - Ride Don't hide

This is the commissions lead initiative for 2025. Each member is asked to promote FIVA and the use of historic motorcycles at activities within there regions and countries. Click here to see examples.

Major Events

Every year, we  organise a FIVA World Motorcycle Event. This is held in a member country with the support of the national organisation. We hold a list of interested countries and aim to be able to plan three years ahead.

On current plans, in 2026 we will be hosted by the Czech Republic and for 2027 Switzerland.

We also work with the Fédération Internationale des Clubs Motocyclistes (FIM) Touring Commission.

2025 Lillehammer 7th - 12th July FIM Rally

FIVA's team, Bjorn, Tore and I attended the  FIM Rally in Lillehammer.

We were proud to be invited to be in the lead group, flying the FIVA flag, of the Parade of Nations a 40km route which included riding through the centre of Lillehammer. This is a very big event with nearly 900 participants from 23 countries, see the FIM video here

We also met with the FIM Touring Commission team to discuss how we could develop a joint event together. This is part of our FIVA-FIM agreement, see below for a copy of the agreement.

2025 Italian Taste from 21st – 22nd May - FIVA World Event for Motorcycles

This was marked by outstanding social media coverage jointly produced by the FIVA and ASI communication teams.

The video of the event is here

Of particular note was the use of sustainable fuel, courtesy of the ASI Green Commission, with our member Maryam Talee making her debut riding a motorcycle combination using this fuel.

2024 Rotor Retro Tour FIVA World Rally Poland

A video of the successful 2024 event is here

Many thanks to all involved for the great efforts made.

The longest distance ridden was awarded to Panagiotis Tsourounaki, who rode from Crete on a 1951 BMW R67, a distance of some 2,900km. He dedicated his ride to his friend and long term FIVA Motorcycle Commission member, Takis, who is currently recovering from illness.

The story of his trip is here
