For the first time since FIVA’s founding in 1966 that the General Council (GC) had its meeting in Bangalore, India’s fast growing tech city. Seven members of the GC – Patrick Rollet, Mario Theissen, Peter Edqvist, Tiddo Brester, Tony Davies, Gautam Sen and Natasa Jerina Grom – along with Gian Mario Mollar, FIVA’s Secretary General, discussed the many issues and concerns regarding the historic vehicle movement across the Globe. With a full day that lasted until 6pm of Friday and a half day session to complete the rest of the discussion and deliberations on Saturday the 16th of March, FIVA’s GC had a very fruitful one-and-a-half day session at the Oakwood Residency, a charming apartment hotel complex in Bangalore’s exclusive UB City mall. To celebrate the occasion, the hosting organisation Federation of Historical Vehicles of India (FHVI) went to elaborate lengths to put up an excellent exhibition of 42 exquisite historic vehicles – ranging from a tiny, but enthusiastic Austin Seven to a giant of a Mercedes-Benz Nurburg – on the forecourt of the mall, whereby thousands of enthusiasts and spectators enjoyed looking at and photographing these rare beauties. In the afternoon of the 16th of February, the Delhi-based Osianama Learn [...]

The first of this year’s three FIVA World Rallies takes place in Austria, from 22 to 26 May 2019, and is open to any vehicle built up to 1980 with a valid FIVA ID Card – not just to members of FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens or international federation of historic vehicles).“The Austria Classic is intended as a ‘regularity event and/or touristic discovery trip’ to enjoy not only driving your own historic vehicle, but also the architectural, geographical and cultural diversity of Austria,” explains Robert Krickl, president of OMVV (Austrian Motor-Veteran-Federation) and OMVC (Austrian Motor-Veteran-Club), the FIVA clubs organising the Austria Classic.Starting and finishing at the Radisson Blu Park Royal Palace Hotel in Vienna, the event is a 650km run round Vienna, Wachau, Burgenland and the Semmering region, with a choice of two classes to enter: one for Regularity (Classic) competitors and one for Touring (Trophy) participants.Wachau, which will be explored on the first full day of the rally, is a part of Austria renowned for its picturesque landscapes: rolling hills that stretch along the Danube river. Other reasons for its popularity with visitors include the region’s high-quality wines.
2018 was dedicated to the cultural heritage of Europe. Variuos cultural events, attracting more then 3500 visitors, were organized all over Europe bearing the title European Year of Cultural Heritage. For us, historic vehicles enthusiasts, associated in Zveza SVS, FIVA ANF in Slovenia, the big questions were: are our historic vehicles and our activities with them also part of the cultural heritage and if they are, how to organize suitable events to celebrate the cultural heritage year.
Very quickly we came to the decision that everything related to our activities with historic vehicles, including the vehicles themselves, represent our technical culture and is, therefore, part of our cultural heritage. Then we decided to start the project called »Štafeta od Pirana do Goričkega – Relay event from Piran to Goričko«.
It was not a relay in the true sense of the word, but it was a journey of ideas and awareness of the value of everything that is past, yet a very important and indispensable part of our present life. Without the creations and achievements of our ancestors, materialized in the form of monuments, galleries, museums, parks, buildings, factories, we would have no basis for our existence and for proving our [...]
Details have been released on the spectacular FIVA World Rally in Andorra this summer (1-7 July 2019), open to anyone with a historic car at least 30 years old, not only to members of FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens or international federation of historic vehicles). As FIVA President Patrick Rollet explains, “While Andorra is hosting the event, the World Rally enables participants to visit three countries – Andorra, France and Spain.”The itinerary is bursting with opportunities to enjoy new experiences in company with other historic car enthusiasts, from rafting in Sort, a small Spanish village some 70 km from Andorra to riding Andorra’s Tobotronc (at 5km, it’s the longest Alpine toboggan run in the world – but very safe!). There are museum tours, shopping expeditions and a concours in a pedestrian-only avenue in the centre of the nation’s capital city, Andorra la Vella plus, for those who prefer more sedentary pursuits, there’s a concert at the Ordino Auditorium and spectating at the Cirque du Soleil. Whatever activities are on offer during the day, however, each night will see participants return for an overnight stay at the luxurious Arthotel in the centre of Andorra la Vella, capital of the Pri [...]

A very good question. Well, it hardly comes as a surprise, that Events are one of FIVA’s major focus points as we promote and encourage the active use of our historic vehicles. The spirit of yesterday’s vehicles on tomorrow’s roads lives on within the Events Commission’s work to help to address FIVA’s broader mission of the protection, preservation and promotion of historic vehicles. It is not just a question of placing events on the FIVA Events Calendar, appointing FIVA Stewards to International category events or even attending exciting Events Commission meetings.Take the recent very successful FIVA World Rally 2018 held in Wales during late August and early September for example. The UK ANF applied to put this event onto the FIVA Events Calendar three years ago. Indeed in the same year other countries also applied as so many countries are now hoping to host FIVA World Rallies for cars and motorcycles that they are appointed several years ahead. So popular are they that we already have applications for FIVA World Rallies as far ahead as 2022.For the more usual events, both National and International categories, the calendar applications for the following year usually start to come in about 6 months before the New Ye [...]

La Festa Mille Miglia 2018, held in Japan, is now in its 21st year. As you can probably guess from the title, it’s a 1000-mile rally run along the lines of the current Italian 1000 Miglia and this year it started on 19 October in Tokyo, ending up in the same city on Monday 22 October.
A representative from FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens or international federation of historic vehicles) attended as the FIVA Steward, and for the first time, La Festa Mille Miglia was chosen as one of this year’s 10 events at which a FIVA Best Preserved Vehicle award would be presented.
And the winner of the FIVA Best Preserved Vehicle trophy?
Whilst the FIVA Steward found it unusually hard to separate the many potential contenders, the trophy was finally awarded to the 1951 Panhard Dyna X 110/X85 owned by Yoshinobu and Miyoko Kato. This model of the marque is affectionately known to aficionados as ‘Louis XVth’ thanks to its marvellous baroque curves.
While the Panhard Dyna might perhaps not be every enthusiast’s first choice for competing in a 1000-mile road rally, the diminutive Dyna X would certainly be a car that almost every participant would love to take home with them, judging by the [...]
The Rally for Historical Utilitarian Vehicles called Åkarsvängen 2018, took place on last 15th September, started in Södertälje, Sweden, just outside the Scania truck factory. 156 vehicles drove from 100 km, solving problems at some control stations.
This year there has been a significant participation from Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. All kind of utilitarian vehicles could be seen that day. Firetrucks, ambulances, pick-ups, buses, military vehicles and of course trucks, both small and big, short and long. Trucks for several purposes were driven during this rally, with or without trailers for cargo, logs, fuel, gravel and other transportation uses.
The age of the vehicles displayed varied from 1927 to 1985, and also the age of the participants varied from 5 to 80. Everybody had fun and the organizer, Motorhistoriska Sällskapet, did a good job in promoting the event, so there were a lot of people along the roads taking pictures and waving to the vehicles passing by.FIVA Logo:

The 30th of September – 2nd of October 2018, was the weekend when 50 participants from around the world, England, France, Sri Lanka and across India drove their glorious cars across Bangalore and Mysore through some of the most iconic structures created by man.
A feast for the eyes is an understatement. Every location rose straight out of a fairy tale. With the regal Mysore Palace lit up with 90,000 bulbs for the occasion, or the grand old Legislature of Karnataka the Vidhana Soudha, with the Chief Minister himself standing on the steps with participants viewing the city, or the breathtaking Chamundi Hills as the backdrop for the lunch at the Race Club, and last but definitely not the least the opulent Lalitha Mahal Palace a suitable residence for the guests and their vehicles. This event stayed true to it’s name every step of the way. Presenting, the Federation of Historic Vehicles of India’s maiden and most Historic event the country has ever seen, ‘The Royal Classic Car Drive to Mysore 2018.’
Elegant luncheons in palaces and stately dinners at breathtaking locations is what awaited the visitors in order to give in to the splendour of the state of Mysore during the famous Dasara, the festival symbolizing the v [...]
