Aims and objectives of the Commission

The Historic Commission is the memory of FIVA. Theoretically it should collect all interesting documents concerning historic and collectors cars. No matter if they concern the machinery, the men, the engineers, the designers or the drivers. In real life of course this is impossible because of financial reasons.

This restricts the work to the knowledge of the sources and to look for those who have the necessary information. At the same time the Historic Commission has started to collect their own documentation on subjects on which nothing or only unsufficient information or where only unsufficient sources are available.

So the General Assembly held last October in Geneva approved the foillowing points as the base of the work of the historic Commission:

  • Up to date list of museums. First those in Europe, later those of the rest of the world
  • List of designers since the beginning of the motor car
  • List of inventors.
  • List of the great drivers

The work of the commission is mostly done by mail and only one or two annual meetings are held to update information. The distribution of work and coordination is done by the chairman with the help of the vice-president and the secretary, but anyone who wants to take part in this field of work is very welcome.
